Site Statistics

Since it first came on line on January 29, 1998, this website has had well over 100,000 "hits" coming from all over the world. To give you a basic idea as to who visits this site, we did some investigating, and came up with some pretty fascinating statistics.

Using statistics from the past 5 years, we found that this website had been visited a total of 56,392 times. Of that number, 49,140 visits were from unique visitors, or over 87% of the total of visits. Now, some of you must be thinking "Well, a lot of those visits were people who stumbled across this site by accident." We thought this might be the case, too, so we installed a visitor's poll (still in operation) to give us an idea of who visited our site and why. As you can see from the graphic on the right, if the results of the web poll are an accurate indication of who has been visiting our site, clearly 49% -- almost half -- of all visitors identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender former Jehovah's Witnesses. If this percentage holds true for the total quantity of visitors to this site, this means that 24,570 GLBT former JWs have looked at this site in the past 5 years. That's a lot of people, folks! Additionally, the poll shows another 12% of those visiting this site as being active JWs still in the organization who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. This would mean that, going by the poll figures, 5897 active Witnesses who identify as GLBT have looked at this site. We believe that there are many more still out there who we have not yet reached. This assumption is reinforced by the fact that every day our site gets more and more visits. According to the web poll, only 6% of the visitors to this site arrived here by accident.

A Common Bond in the Media We are very pleased that the news media has taken notice of A Common Bond and the work we are doing in offering support to gay & lesbian former and current Jehovah's Witnesses.	Do We "Bash" the Jehovah's Witnesses? As one might expect, this website is not looked upon favorably by the Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) religion. Its membership is taught that homosexuality is "a sin", "an abomination", "detestable", and various other assorted words synonymous with evil. These teachings are based on certain cited passages in the Bible that the JWs are taught condemn homosexuality.
Pride Events 2007 In the years 1998, 1999, and 2000, a contingent from A Common Bond has marched in the San Francisco Pride Parade, much to the delight of approximately one million onlookers annually lining both sides of Market Street. We were also televised on San Francisco's TV-20, giving us exposure to hundreds of thousands of additional viewers.	Our Coming Out Stories In the years since A Common Bond was founded, we have learned that each one of our members has their own unique story to tell about their experiences as a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. We have posted stories of some of our members in hopes that you will find encouragement, hope, and most importantly, the knowledge that you are not alone.
The Watchtower Tries to Silence Us... and fails!! On Friday, July 24, 1998, our group's web site was blocked access by Geocities, where this site was formerly located. This was done without any prior notification.	Making Our Presence Known Locally District Assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses are held annually at the Cow Palace on Geneva Avenue in Daly City (just outside San Francisco). For the last two years, we have been making our presence known by parking our vehicles across the street from the Cow Palace with signs advertising our support group, complete with telephone numbers and our web site URL.
